Works Council stays up to date

A Works Council was established within a company. Some of the members had previously been members of a Works Council. For the other members, this work was completely new. There was a difference in knowledge among the members about the tasks and possibilities of the Works Council. In order to get off to a good start, this difference had to be bridged. The Works Council called on us to provide a basic course on the Works Councils Act (WOR). In addition to this, a “catch-up session” is now held every quarter. During these sessions, the Works Council is informed about important developments in employee participation law, the issues at play in the organisation are discussed, as well as whether the Works Council can or should act on those issues. And, importantly, how the Works Council can tackle this. Attention is paid to the legal aspects of the matter as well as how the Works Council can best act in practical terms, with attention to the relationship with the director. In this way, the Works Council remains well informed of the latest developments and on track with regard to its own objectives.

The Works Council is assisted by Lisanne Winde.

The members of this Works Council are particularly committed to the company, proactive and motivated. However, they are not always aware of their legal rights and obligations. It is rewarding to provide them with the necessary guidance and provide practical ideas on the best way to approach issues.
