Lotje studied Dutch law at Erasmus University Rotterdam. From 1975 to the end of 2019, she worked as an attorney and held various positions in the Dutch Bar Association (including acting general dean). Lotje joined the firm as counsel and mediator on 1 January 2020.
As a mediator, Lotje focuses primarily on mediation in healthcare. She works together with Romke Wybenga in this area. Thanks to her many years of experience as a mediator and as an attorney specialising in healthcare law, she is convinced of the importance of mediation in healthcare. Conflict resolution at an early stage through mediation prevents tensions and escalation and benefits patient care.
In addition to her work as a lawyer, Lotje has also worked as a university lecturer in forensic psychiatry and health law at VU University Amsterdam, as chair of the Child Protection Board and as a member of the Council for the Administration of Criminal Justice and Protection of Juveniles. She was also a deputy judge at the Court of Appeal in The Hague and chair of the Regional Euthanasia Review Committee.
